چکیده

poor settings such as Mozambique the lack of adequate infrastructure, high costs of viral load tests and the availability of salvage treatment has hindered the intended objective of monitoring HIV treatment, suggesting an important concern regarding the development of drug resistance. The general aim of this study was to evaluate natural occurring polymorphisms and resistance-associated mutations in the gp41 region of HIV-1 isolates from Mozambique. The study included 78 patients naive to ARV treatment and 28 patients failing first line regimen, recruited from the Alto Mae Health Centre in Maputo. The gp41 gene from 103 patients was sequenced and resistance associated mutations for Enfuvirtide were screened. Subtype analysis revealed that 93% sequences were classified as subtype C, 2% as subtype G, 1% as subtype A1, and the other 4% as mosaic recombinant forms. No Enfuvirtide resistance associated mutations in HR1 of gp41 were detected. The major polymorphisms in the HR1 were: N42S, L54M, A67T, and V72I. This study suggests that this new class of antiviral drug may be effective as a salvage therapy in patients failing first line regimens in Mozambique. However further phenotypic studies are required to determine the clinical relevance of these polymorphisms detected in this study.

Effect of Live Poultry Market Interventions on Influenza A(H7N9) Virus, Guangdong, China

Since March 2013, three waves of human infection with avian influenza A(H7N9) virus have been detected in China. To investigate virus transmission within and across epidemic waves, we used surveillance data and whole-genome analysis of viruses sampled in Guangdong during 2013-2015. We observed a geographic shift of human A(H7N9) infections from the second to the third waves. Live poultry market...

Environmental Sampling for Avian Influenza A(H7N9) in Live-Poultry Markets in Guangdong, China

BACKGROUND To provide an increased understanding of avian influenza A(H7N9) activity in live-poultry market in space and time and hence improve H7N9 epidemic control, an ongoing environmental sampling program in multiple live-poultry markets across Guangdong, China was conducted during March 2013-June 2014. METHODS A total of 625 live-poultry markets throughout 21 prefecture areas took part i...

Third Wave of Influenza A(H7N9) Virus from Poultry, Guangdong Province, China, 2014–2015

Fourteen influenza A(H7N9) viruses were isolated from poultry or the environment in live poultry markets in Guangdong Province, China during 2014-2015. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all viruses were descended from viruses of the second wave of influenza A(H7N9) virus infections during 2013. These viruses can be divided into 2 branches.

Poultry Market Closures and Human Infection with Influenza A(H7N9) Virus, China, 2013–14

Closure of live poultry markets was implemented in areas affected by the influenza virus A(H7N9) outbreak in China during winter, 2013-14. Our analysis showed that closing live poultry markets in the most affected cities of Guangdong and Zhejiang provinces was highly effective in reducing the risk for H7N9 infection in humans.
